Although our music director, Timothy Todd Simmons, began service
with our congregation last fall there are many who still have not met him. Perhaps a brief introduction will help.

Todd, as he prefers to be called, has been the director of the San Diego Opera Chorus for the past ten years.  During that time he has also directed choirs in several churches. At the recent performance of Wagner’s “Tannhaueser” he directed a chorus of 79 singers, often in groups offstage. Ask him what it is like to run in the dark backstage to be where he needs to be.

A native of Oklahoma, he graduated from Cameron University and received advanced degrees at Indiana University. Prior to coming to San
Diego he was in the music department at DePauw University.  He is married to Kathleen Halm, a professional singer, who has sung for us twice at second service.  They are the parents of an eight year old Eleanor, who attends our Sunday School.

Mr. Simmons believes that choir is for those with good voices, whether or not they read music.  At present he is conducting a voice class for interested choir members before the 7:15 Thursday rehearsal.  If you have any interest in singing in the choir for the traditional service be sure and talk with Todd or come to a Thursday rehearsal just to try it out.
